Rising comedic star, Zach Galifianakis, is in talks to star in a coming of age dramedy called, “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” to be written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the team responsible for “Half Nelson,” and the immigrant baseball drama “Sugar.”
THR reports that Focus Features and Misher Films are teaming up to produce the film with Wayfare Entertainment financing and producing.
The narrative, based on a Ned Vizzini novel, follows a depressed teenager who ends up in a mental institution and meets many interesting characters there up through adulthood.
Galifianakis, previously only known as a road horse comedian and the host of a short lived talk show, became a bona fide star this year after starring as a lethargic stoner in Todd Phillips’ smash hit, “The Hangover.”
Warner Bros. has also hired the the funnyman for two upcoming comedies, the buddy road-trip flick, “Due Date,” which has already wrapped, and “Hangover 2,” which is scheduled to start shooting next year.
