Columbia Pictures has opted to rewrite the alien invasion screenplay, “Battle: Los Angeles.” The original script, written by Chris Bertolini, chronicles an other-worldly invasion of  downtown Los Angeles. Scott Silver (writer of “8 Mile,” and co-writer/director of “The Mod Squad,” and “Johns”) has been hired to do the rewrite. The film, reportedly has Aaron Eckhart attached to play a Marine commander, and Jonathan Liebesman (“The Killing Room”) is set to direct.

DreamWorks also has its tentacles in the science-fiction world having acquired screenwriter Michael Gilvary’s alien abduction thriller, “Nonstop.” Patrick Tatopoulos (“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”) is set to direct the project which is about a commercial airliner’s abduction by an alien ship.

Hilary Swank’s 2S Films has tapped filmmaker Shana Feste (“The Greatest”) to adapt Michelle Wildgen’s debut novel “You’re Not You” into a feature film. The novel is a drama about the relationship between a dying woman and her caretaker.  Feste is best know for her first ever feature, “The Greatest,” which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.   Senator Entertainment bought North American distribution rights after the film’s warm reception.
