Sherlock Holmes press presentation at the San Diego Comic Con in CASick of vampires yet?  Well get ready for more, this time with Iron Man himself as the lead bloodsucker.

Bloody Disgusting has just learned that Universal Pictures is looking to reinvigorate Anne Rice’s popular vamp series, “The Vampire Chronicles,” which centers on a nobleman/vampire named Lestat Du Lioncort in the late 18th century.

Robert Downey Jr. is in negotiations to play Lestat in Universal’s reboot of “The Vampire Chronicles,” which the studio hopes will spawn a full-fledged and lucrative new franchise.

Downey Jr. has some big fangs to fill as Tom Cruise played the famed vamp in Neil Jordan’s 1994 “Interview With the Vampire,” and Stuart Townsend replaced him in 2002’s “Queen of the Damned.”

The Vampire Chronicles canon:

Interview with the Vampire (1976)
The Vampire Lestat (1985)
The Queen of the Damned (1988)
The Tale of the Body Thief (1992)
Memnoch the Devil (1995)
The Vampire Armand (1998)
Merrick (2000)
