Ridley Scott, the famed director behind futuristic dramas like “Blade Runner” and “Alien,” will take on the critically acclaimed and beloved dystopian work, Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.”
The Risky Biz Blog reports that Universal is taking the reins on the project where Scott will produce through his Scott Free banner and likely direct. Marty Scorsese’s favorite muse, Leonardo DiCaprio, will also produce through his Appian Way banner and likely star.
Farhad Safinia, the scribe behind Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto,” has been hired to pen the script.
Michael Costigan and George DiCaprio will also produce.
Though Huxley’s 1931 novel has never been adapted for the big screen, it has been adapted for TV a few times. One such endeavor was a Leonard Nimoy-Peter Gallagher starrer on NBC in 1998.
The book takes place in a seemingly utopian 26th century world wherein births are tightly regulated and restricted and the family is outlawed. Citizens are divided into five castes, each with explicitly defined roles.
