Ready For a “Watchmen” Sequel? Neither are we. Luckily, those responsible for the lackluster adaptation of the most beloved graphic novel in history feel the same way–for now.

Director Zack Snyder recently told the New York Times, “I know that I wouldn’t have anything to do with it.” This contradicts an earlier rumor that claimed Warner Bros. was already in pre-production on a sequel prior to this film’s release. That may have been true, but thanks to underwhelming critical support and a less-than expected showing at the box office, the project may have been canned.

Snyder continued in the Times interview saying, “It would be like me going to [‘No Country for Old Men’ author] Cormac McCarthy and going, ‘I have an idea for a [sequel]: You write a book, and I’ll write a movie, and you can release it. You’ll win a Pulitzer; I’ll win an Oscar. It’ll be awesome,’ ”

He even went further implying that his disinterest in a sequel is in defiance of greedy studio executives and an aim to give the comic book world more credibility saying, “The attitude toward comic books, they show their hand a little bit. They would never say that about a real novelist, but they would about a comic book”
