Deadline reports that The Weinstein Company will distribute Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film — his first since 2007’s “There Will Be Blood.”

After a furious bidding war the Weinstein’s won worldwide distribution rights to the untitled religious drama about a disenchanted WWII veteran who starts his own religion. Originally titled “The Master,” the film will implicitly chronicle the rise of the Church of Scientology.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix have both signed on to star.

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna banner is the sole financier and was able to secure nearly the entire $35 million budget originally promised by Universal before that studio backed off the project.

Prodcution is set to begin June 13.
