Since is was announced some time ago that producers Scott Mednick and Galen Walker were interesting to doing a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” feature film, the duo has been on the hunt for a writer.

Variety reports that the search is over. John Fusco (“The Forbidden Kingdom,” “Hidalgo,” “Young Guns”) has been hired to reinvigorate the classic children’s TV series for the big screen once more. The pic will be a live-action relaunch of the franchise complete with the popular characters Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and their rat-master Splinter slated for a 2011 release.

New Line released four live-action “Turtles” pics in the early 1990s that made more than $323 million worldwide. Interest in the laid back crime-fighting mutants was reignited in 2007 when Warner Bros. released an animated feature that earned over $95 million.

Fusco has been tasked with revisiting the origin story created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1983.

Lightbox Productions is financing the project but as of yet no director or studio are attached.
