Director, Darren Aronofsky’s long gestating project, “Black Swan” has been redeemed from turnaround and may soon find a home thanks to Natalie Portman’s reported involvement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project–a supernatural thriller set against the backdrop of New York City’s ballet scene–originated at Universal in 2007 and is just now re-emerging thanks to Mark Heyman’s rewrite of John McLaughlin’s original script and Aronofsky’s newly valuable stock thanks to his critically acclaimed, “The Wrestler.”

Here’s the pitch: “…A veteran ballerina (Portman)…finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.”

Mike Medavoy will produce through his Phoenix Pictures and Protozoa.

If “Swan” is picked up soon it very well could begin shooting as early as this year.

Aronofsky has also been developing the “Robocop” reboot at MGM.
