Since picking up the rights to Godzilla from Japan’s Toho Co. in March, Legendary Pictures has been on the hunt for a director to bring the famous cinematic destruct-a-saur back to the big screen.

According to Heatvision, the studio has found their man.

Gareth Edwards, the British filmmaker who wrote and directed the low-budget sci-fi flick “Monsters,” is in final talks to develop and direct the creature feature for Legendary.

“Mosters,” Edwards’ debut film, premiered at SXSW last year and has been garnering rave reviews from both critics and audiences.  It follows a photographer tasked with guiding his boss’s daughter through a dangerous quarantined zone in Northern Mexico infected by giant invertebrate aliens.  Famously shot on a shoe-string budget with Edwards doing all the VFX himself, “Monsters” has Hollywood buzzing and apparently gave Legendary the confidence in its director to hire him for what promises to be a big tent-pole release in “Godzilla.”
