Phil Carlo, author of “The Ice Man,” is pleased to have Mickey Rourke starring in the title role of the film adaptation of his book about a notorious mafia hit man who killed more than 200 people, reports NY Post.
“He’s really looking forward to being the Ice Man, and I think he’ll do a great job,” Carlo told the Post. “He’s talking about it being his ‘Raging Bull.’ ”
Strong words from coming from the once exiled star who’s seen an incredible resurgence with turns in Darren Aronofsky’s acclaimed “The Wrestler,” and John Favreau’s upcoming “Iron Man 2.”
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer on “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” had the film rights to the book but his option expired when he and Carlo couldn’t agree on who would play the lead role. Bonaventura apparently wanted Channing Tatum to star — Carlo would have none of that saying, “I think Mickey Rourke would really be good. He’s got that sense of danger . . . But it’s not Channing Tatum.”
Richard Kuklinski, the behind the Ice Man persona, wasn’t only a killer for hire, he was a bona fide serial killer with a staggering 50 victims under his belt by the time he was 18.
Shooting is scheduled to begin next spring in New York, New Jersey and Florida.
