Matthew McConaughey and Eva Mendes are in negotiations to star in the independently financed drama, “Southbound,” reports Variety.
The pic will be directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz (“Secuestro Express”), and produced by Rick Schwartz and Aaron Kaufman.
The script was penned by Peter Craig and centers on a patrol officer on the border between California and Mexico who takes a bribe from a beautiful Mexican woman. The transaction puts his family in danger and lands him in the middle of a war between Mexican crime families and U.S. immigration.
Overnight Productions will finance the pic which is scheduled to begin shooting in September.
McConaughey most recently completed “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” and Mendes just wrapped on Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.”
