The cast for Columbia’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot is coming together nicely with the recent addition of two high profile Hollywood mainstays.

Heatvision reports that Martin Sheen, 70-year-old actor known for his famous roles in “Apocalypse Now” and TV’s “The West Wing,” is in final negotiations to play Peter Parker’s kindly Uncle Ben whose death early in the comic series is the catalyst for Peter’s desire to fight crime.

Also in talks with the studio is one Sally Field (“Forrest Gump,” “Norma Rae”) up for the role of Aunt May, who becomes an important figure in the comic’s lore as Peter’s only remaining family after the death of Uncle Ben.

The film, which begins shooting in December, will be directed by Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”) and has already cast Andrew Garfield as Peter, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as the movie’s unnamed villain.
