Bloody Disgusting reports that Mark Wahlberg (“The Departed,” “The Happening”) was offered the lead role in Relativity Media’s remake of “The Crow,” a 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas (“Dark City”) that starred Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee.

The original film, adapted from James O’Barr’s comic book series, followed a man who was brutally killed along with his fiancée, but then is ressurrected as The Crow, an undead vigilante out to avenge those murders and others.

Other news surrounding the project is that iconoclastic musician and screenwriter Nick Cave has been working on a rewrite of the script and that Stephen Norrington (“Blade,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) is attached to direct.

Although Wahlberg has been offered the role, there is no word yet on how apt the star is to accept.
