Legendary Pictures is hoping to capitalize on the fanfare generated this year by the 40th anniversary of Woodstock with a feature film about guitar-god, Jimi Hendrix.

Thomas Tull is attached to produce the flick along with Bill Gerber.  Variety is reporting that Max Borenstein will write the script.  Borenstein is the writer of “What Is Life Worth?,” the fact-driven story about attorney Kenneth Feinberg’s work on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

Hendrix’s tumultuous, enigmatic, influential and decidedly cinematic life has been the target of several movie studios but none have been able to get the rights from his estate.  Legendary plans to flesh out the project first and then win cooperation from the estate and move forward with the picture.

Lenny Kravitz and Outkast’s Andre Benjamin, among others have been tagged as possible stars but the studio is far from casting.

Tull also produced the recent “It Might Get Loud,” a music documentary that features Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, U2’s the Edge, and Jack White of the White Stripes for Sony Classics.
