Henry Cavill, star of Showtime’s period drama “The Tudors,” has been given the keys to the Fortress of Solitude.

The 27-year-old actor, who was on the short lists to play both Batman and Superman when those franchises were being rebooted by Christopher Nolan for “Batman Begins” and Bryan Singer for “Superman Returns,” will finally get his shot in the blue tights and red cape in Warner Bros.’ upcoming reboot.

And it turns out Cavill will get to the chance to work with Nolan afterall as the “Inception” director will be producing the Zack Snyder-directed Superman reboot.

According to sources close to Heatvision, Cavill beat out Matthew Goode, the British actor who played genius entrepreneur Ozymandias in Snyder’s “Watchmen,” for the coveted role last played by Brandon Routh in “Superman Returns.”

Also in the running to win the role were “White Collar” star Matthew Bomer, “The Social Network” star Armie Hammer, “True Blood” actor Joe Manganiello and Colin O’Donaghue, from “The Rite” with Anthony Hopkins.
