Ethan Coen is planning a return to the Atlantic Theater Company with a new off-Broadway series of one-act plays entitled “Offices.”
Ethan and his brother Joel are together know as the “two-headed director” and have made several iconic and successful films including “Raising Arizona,” “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski,” and 2008’s Best Picture Academy Award winner, “No Country for Old Men.”
This project will follow-up Coen’s success last season with his production, “Almost an Evening,” which was also a series of one-act shows.
Coen is aiming for laughs with “Offices” which will open May 7, but noted in an interview, “The audience will be the judge of that.”
The first play in the series is called “Peer Review,” the second, “Homeland Security,” and the third “Struggle Session.”
Director Neil Pepe (“Speed-the-Plow”) said in an interview, “The plays have Ethan’s incredibly distinct and funny and slightly dark voice, and I also find them to be quite theatrical. It’s been a great collaborative process, the beginning of it being last year. We had a great time. And I am excited to get back into it again.”
