Since Disney discovered the golden goose that is “Pirates of the Caribbean,” an entire film franchise based on a Disneyland ride, the studio has decided to see if it can make lightning strike twice — or five or six times.
24 Frames reports that Disney is developing a script by Ahmet Zappa (son of Frank) based on the Disneyland attraction Enchanted Tiki Room.
Zappa and writing partner Michael Wilson were inspired by the attraction while writing the script, though it is important to note that according to a studio spokesperson the film won’t be a true adaptation of Enchanted Tiki Room but will be merely an action-adventure that mixes in the Polynesian mythology inspired by the attraction built in the early 1960s.
“Tiki” marks the latest in a string of theme park attractions-turned films. Guillermo del Toro is currently developing the “Haunted Mansion” into a horror picture and the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film is due in theaters May 20, 2011.
