David Cronenberg will partner with Portuguese producer, Paulo Branco, to adapt Don DeLillo’s novel “Cosmopolis” for the big screen.

Variety reports that Cronenberg, director of films like “The Dead Zone,” “The Fly,” “A History of Violence,” and “Eastern Promises,” will direct and adapt DeLillo’s 2003 novel for the screen.

The narrative centers on a 28-year-old multimillionaire who embarks on a 24-hour odyssey across Manhattan.  Other works by DeLillo include “White Noise” and “Underworld.”

Branco will produce through his Paris-based Alfama Films banner and Cronenberg’s Toronto-based Antenna LTD.

Shooting is slated to begin in 2010 on location in Toronto and New York.

Branco’s most recent production credit was the Fanny Ardant-directed “Ashes and Blood.”
