After much speculation, THR’s Heat Vision Blog finally broke the news that Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, who you know as the iconic and ultra patriotic comic book hero, Captain America.

Sources revealed that the actor not only accepted Marvel’s offer this past weekend but that the “dealmaking moved so fast it’s now all about dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”

Apparently Evans was offered the role in the Marvel Studios film “The First Avenger: Captain America” a week ago, but there was some doubt about his interest in playing the character.

Most comic-loving audiences will recognize Evans as Johnny Storm, a.k.a, the Human Torch, in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” movies.

Other actors reportedly in the running for the role included Ryan Phillipe, Channing Tatum, John Krasinski and Jon Hamm.
