Batman may have found himself a new love interest, and a new baddy to defend Gotham against once again.

On Wednesday, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Anne Hathaway (“Rachel Getting Married”) has been cast as Selina Kyle (Catwoman) in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” The “Memento” and “Inception” director will be back to helm the third installment in the latest big screen revamp of the DC Comics character, along with Christian Bale who will reprise his role as the troubled hero.

Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy (“Bronson,” “Inception”) has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will direct the script he wrote with his brother Jonathan Nolan, based on the story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is scheduled to hit theaters July 20, 2012.
