French director, Pierre Morel, has signed on to direct “Signals,” reports THR.
Morel’s most recent film, the overachieving “Taken,” grossed upwards of $220 million worldwide.
“Signals,” written by Richard Potter and Matthew Stravitz, is set up over at Media Rights Capital Films, who bought the script in April and put it on the fast track towards production.
The details of the script are being kept under tight wraps but sources indicate that it will have a sort of 1970s-era paranoid thriller tone, in the vain of films like “Three Days of the Condor.”
“Pierre Morel is one of the most exciting filmmakers to emerge in years,” MRC Films president Tory Metzger said about the former camera operator and cinematographer. “Audiences have come to expect edge-of-their-seat action from him, and we are confident this next film will deliver just that.”
Morel’s next project, “From Paris With Love,” will be released through Lionsgate in February. Other projects include an untitled Tokyo thriller penned by Frank Baldwin set up at Paramount, and another action thriller, “Pursuit,” set up at Universal.
