Scorsese to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award

'The Red Shoes' New York Special ScreeningMartin Scorsese has been selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 17.

DeMille, one of the fathers of film and a preeminent Hollywood director, is most famous for co-founding the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as well as directing landmark films like “Don’t Change Your Husband” (1919), “The Ten Commandments” (1923), “The King of Kings” (1927), and “The Greatest Show on Earth” (1952).

The award established in his honor recognizes outstanding achievement and contribution to the entertainment industry.

With the “The Departed” (2006) and “Gangs of New York” (2002) Scorsese secured two Golden Globes for best director.  His other nominations include “Casino,” “Age of Innocence,” “Goodfellas” and “Raging Bull,” for best director and a best screenplay nom, along with Nicolas Pileggi, for “Raging Bull.”

Scorsese’s next release is the horror-thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, “Shutter Island,” which opens Feb. 19.

The Jan. 17 Golden Globes Awards show will be hosted by British comedian, Ricky Gervais.
