FOX-Fall Eco-Casino Party 2009Apparently J.J. Abrams knows something the rest of us don’t: Studios love lens flare.  After this year’s critically acclaimed and monstrous box-office hit, “Star Trek,” which featured an unhealthy dose of said camera technique, Hollywood execs have been clamoring for more J.J., even willing to plop down close to $2 million for an untitled pitch at a time when most other studios have closed down development spending for the year.

Paramount has acquired the pitch from writers Aline Brosh McKenna and Simon Kinberg, with Abrams and Bryan Burk attached to produce through their Bad Robot banner, according to Variety.

Paramount execs, Adam Goodman and Marc Evans closed the deal Friday evening and were able avoid a bidding war thanks to the first-look arrangement the studio has with Bad Robot.

Sherryl Clark will exec produce with Lindsay Paulson associate producing.

McKenna is best known for “The Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses,” decidedly different fare than his writing partner’s credits.  Kinberg is know for “Sherlock Holmes,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

Speculation about how these two drastically different sensibilities will mesh is plentiful, but as of yet, neither Paramount nor Bad Robot will reveal any plot details.
