Cannes Film Festival 2009 - Festival Directors LuncheonFormer Fox News gossip columnist, Roger Friedman, is suing his old pub for more than $5 million after he was fired for infamously reviewing a leaked copy of Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

Friedman is seeking damages for libel and legal fees after he says he was fired from his $250,000-per-year job illegally.  Fox as well as News Corp and its chairman, Rupert Murdoch, are name as defendants for “willfully, recklessly, intentionally and maliciously” defaming him, although Fox says it has not been served with the suit yet.

The blogosphere was set ablaze on April 2 when Friedman posted review of the Hugh Jackman starrer, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” which he freely admitted was from an illegally pirated copy of the film.

Friedman claims that he contacted an in-house attorney at Fox before posting the review but never received a response and that none of his editors raised any concerns.
