Mia Wasikowska, the untested star of Tim Burton’s much anticipated romp of whimsy, “Alice in Wonderland,” may be headed for Hollywood stardom.
Burton’s picture hasn’t yet been released which means that the Australian Wasikowska is still an unproven property. Though such things have never scared away visionary director, Gus Van Sant, who’s actively pursuing the actress for his next project, a dark coming-of-age drama entitled, “Restless,” according to THR.
Word is that the flowering starlet is in final negotiations to star in the yet to be cast project, which is set up over at Columbia and Imagine.
Apparently she’s been carefully weighing her options for her followup to “Alice” and the finalists were Robert Redford’s post-Civil War drama “The Conspirator,” which eventually lost to its competitor, Van Sant’s flick.
“Restless” centers on a teenage boy and girl who share a dark, complex obsession with mortality.
Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of Ron Howard and star of McG’s “Terminator Salvation” is producing along with her father and Brian Grazer.
Van Sant will direct Jason Lew’s debut script which he developed from a play he wrote.
